Poudre School District Identification Process

All students receive consideration for gifted education through the gifted screening process. We universally screen all students in 2nd grade for GT identification in Language Arts, Math, and Creativity for services to be in place in 3rd grade. We give the CogAT test in 2nd grade and collect other supporting data. Starting in 2nd grade, students regularly take the MAP test. CMAS (PARCC) begins in third grade. To qualify, students need to meet the following criteria:

  • **At least three qualifying indicators that are from three different tests from the body of evidence. No two scores may come form the same assessment.
  • **The indicators must be from a minimum of two areas: achievement, ability, performance, and behavior.
  • **Scores must be in the 95th percentile or higher, exceeds expectations on CMAS/PARCC or a predetermined score on a qualitative assessment.
  • **After each wave of assessments in later grades, we review all the data to look for new students that qualify.

Through the referral process, many other assessments are available to the gifted identification team. The assessments listed above are the ones most commonly used through screening.

GT Services offered at Olander:

Why Talent Pool?

Research tells us that gifted behaviors can be developed in a far broader spectrum of the school population than the small percentage of students who are usually identified by high scores on intelligence or achievement tests.
